When a device is listed as having "basic protection" (or in this case, limited CAN bus compatibility), it means the system is capable of monitoring the vehicle's state without being able to control the vehicle's systems.

Here is how those specific signals function in a "Basic Protection" setup:

  • Ignition: The device can detect when the car's ignition is powered on. This is essential for triggering an alarm or starting a timer for an immobilization sequence.
  • Doors & Trunk: The device can "read" the digital status of the door and trunk sensors on the CAN bus. It knows when a door has been opened, which allows it to trigger the siren if the system is armed.
  • Slave Signal: This allows our security system to recognize the status of the factory remote/key fob. When you lock or unlock your car using your original Mercedes key, the device sees this "slave signal" and can automatically arm or disarm itself accordingly.
